Upon completion of this course, students will be able to describe the Communication Planning Process; undertake a situational, audience and channel analyses; develop communication objectives for specific audiences in a given scenario/ disaster/ emergency; formulate appropriate messages for specific audiences; and conceptualize appropriate Risk Communication Material.

The learning outcomes for the module are as follows:

  1. The nature of different kinds of extreme events and the disruptions they can cause for communities affected by them.
  2. How to approach the planning process & explore the ways extreme events can be felt differently by different members within our communities.
  3. Important considerations in crafting messages about risks.
